Cecily, this is super interesting reflection on how ClearLife and basic self-awareness intersect in really unexpected ways. It never occurred to me that the anxiety about an impending situation could come from past transgressions that happened when not fully clear! It will be a nice mediation to ponder today. Thank you!
The fun about this whole clarity thing is that the layers continue to unfurl. That's why I love this "Why Game" as a way to get to what's really going on, what underlies the experience, and whether that is something we still need/want to carry. Thank you for being such a tireless supporter of my work, Charley! I am glad it gives you things to ponder with me :)
Great article! I think it’s self-consciousness that took over from well intended parental advice, in addition to broadly generalized social conditioning based on gender.
As I entered midlife and had a big unexpected shift in partnership status, I enriched myself with things I didn’t take time for before. I learned that most people aren’t thinking about me, they’re thinking self-consciously about themselves most of the time.
I have also found that my life is clearer and I have more freedom without drinking alcohol regularly. Unhealthy patterns and addictions keep people from the freedom to choose something new and better.
I love this insight, Jan. You are so right on all. And the self-consciousness thing in particular... years ago I was so concerned with what other people thought/assumed about my choice to opt out of drinking ("No, I am not an alcoholic....") and then someone near and dear to me pointed out that NO ONE CARES! A few words about not drinking that night and a change of topic was all I needed. Also, yes on freedom... that is the core essence of this all. Indeed, life is amazing when we allow it to be.
Another timely post, as I’m working on one with a similar theme (around taste, trust and belonging)!
I wonder if the pressure to conform is fading with our parents’ generation or if this is just human nature since the drive to belong is so strong! 🤷🏼♀️
Aw, thanks, Mia! I think we will always want to belong, be loved, be safe. We are wired that way. I love the notion of deepening our awareness, however, on with WHAT and WHOM we want to conform... and WHY. Our influences and energy expenditures... something you cover so well in helping us steer to amazing humans and insights on everything from creative expression to shadowy inner work. 💞

Life is good when we allow it to be.
